We make a point to come here every time we are on the island. Once again, we were not disappointed! The corn tortillas in the enchiladas verde melted in the mouth! As always, the refried beans are THE best we've had - anywhere! The salsa is not a red salsa but it's very tasty. I tried the nachos this time and they were very good - it's hard to improve on nachos but these were a step above - but come hungry because the nachos are a large plate!!!

  • *****

What a hidden treasure! Very small, but amazing food with generous portions. Will definitely return!

  • *****

Found this place after searching yelp! Tiny little hole in the wall off Padre Blvd. You really have to pay attention to find it. Food was amazing! Chips and salsa to die for! Reasonably priced. Get the enchiladas!

  • *****

This is the best food in South Padre! We've been to all the local favorites but this is the best AND inexpensive. Everything was so flavorful and delicious we went back again the next day. The portions were large enough for us to take home for dinner too!

  • *****

This is my favorite restaurant on South Padre Island. The staff is very friendly and most importantly the food is excellent. We ate here 2 days in a row and had fish , enchilada, and a giant chicken chipotle sandwich. Everything is fresh and the portions are enough for two meals.

  • *****

Best torta in the world, giant food choices and best place to eat. Be sure to bring your friends at this place to finish your food. The place is small, but it makes out for the size with the taste of some good food. We were going to get burgers at the burger hut, but canceled the order and We went to this awesome place.

  • *****

really outstanding, and reasonably priced. don't tell too many people!!

  • *****

It doesn't look like much on the outside, but this place was more than I could've asked for. My parents suggested it and I was hesitant because I'm in South Padre and I want seafood but that was so worth it. My mom and I had the ground beef enchiladas and my father, brother, and fianc had the "mega philly torta." The torta was HUGE; none of them finished but they took it home because it was so good. Needless to say, the food was well worth it and I HIGHLY recommend visiting here while you're in the area

  • *****

Yummy Mexican food has been hard to find since moving to the area over a year ago. We have FINALLY found a place that serves our tex-mex hearts. Don't let the outside fool you as right as you walk in its a cute little restaurant owned by a local family.

  • *****

The place is small, the sign is small and hard to see from street. The food was awesome. Filled us up. Don't sit by the door if you want the a.c. The service was good.

  • *****

I have to admit I had a few doubts upon entering because despite the good Yelp rating, it appeared very makeshift. The waitress was super helpful when we were ordering though and the food was fantastic. We learned that they make their own tortillas on site. Expect a more classic mexican fare where they use a lot of fresh ingredients and mild in flavor.

  • *****

Our family was looking for a place that wouldn't bust the bank so we stopped here and loved the food! We preferred chicken enchiladas, beef nachos, and a chicken gotta. The enchiladas were so delicious! The nachos were crisp and cheesy and my husband enjoyed the beef. Finally the torta was huge! It has fresh strips of grilled chicken piled high on a toasted hoagie. The servings are generous and we had left overs for dinner. We totally could've split a couple plate and been just fine.

  • *****

Really good service and really good food!
The staff is very kind and they seem to do enjor theyre job as it reflects in their service. The chef brings out the food himself which I liked on their part. The tortillas are homemade and everything is really good overall.

  • *****

This is best Mexican cuisine we have ever had. Service was good even on this very busy memorial weekend evening. Not one of us had a single complaint. Defiantly would recommend everyone to stop in !

  • *****

Good food for a good price. You're going to get a lot of food so make sure you have an appetite. The chicken enchiladas and fish tacos were great. We got 4 enchiladas and 4 tacos with our plates. A little too much for us so we had some leftovers for snacking later on.

It's a small place so large parties may have problems sitting together.

  • *****

The food and service was awesome! Our waitress and her father (the cook) were very sweet people. I had the "smaller" torta and it was huge! Great value, great food, great service--what else do you need?!?!

  • *****

Amazing food here for incredible prices. Very authentic Mexican cuisine that is delicious. Good service as well and very casual atmosphere. I give this place 5 stars/2 thumbs up!

  • *****

Little place, heard they had only moved to the island 3 month ago. They were very friendly. We took our food to go. It was amazing those tacos were flavorful. Good amount of spice. If you want a lot of heat you can get the habanero sauce. Their "salsa" is more of just a red sauce but it was good. I wasn't a huge fan of their chips. Tasted very oily. But I'll be having dreams about their tacos. Not to mention super cheap prices. You get 5 small tacos with the house tacos.

  • *****

This family restaurant is so fresh and amazing. The family is so sweet and accommodating of our alteration requests. Very much recommend. The ceviche is delicious!!

  • *****

We just had the best Mexican food at this restaurant. Everything we ate busted with flavors. The salsa, enchilada, quesadilla, tacos were all yummy !! We are vegetarians and the chef totally customized food to our choice. Must go in South Padre ????????

  • *****

    Went here with my mother.

They were unfortunately out of/hadn't made horchata the two times we went here, but no worries. The mexican Coca Cola was delicious (as always) and pretty cheap!

The food plates are HUGE and the prices affordable. My favorite combination!

The fajita plates are really good. One person can eat and have leftovers for the next day OR two people could easily eat one fajita plate. At less than $15 a plate? YOU BETTER ORDER IT!

There are pictures of most of their food plates all over the restaurant so make sure to take a look on the walls, especially behind the counter/cash register).

You sit anywhere you like, the server brings the menu and takes your order. Then you just walk up to the counter and pay when you're finished.

    Super easy, and affordable lunch!

food tastes great and was at a good price!!

  • *****

Very nice and authentic Mexican food, while the time to get everything took longer then preferred, it was understandable due to the fact it was around lunch time.

I got an enchilada with green sauce and a side of beans and rice. All of it was fantastic and while I'm not a connoisseur of Mexican food it did taste good which is always a plus! The chicken was also really moist and tender (which is good because I feel like properly cooked chicken should always be like that)

    Hello
    I'm Johann from Germany,
We're on a short Vacation on SouthPadre Island and searching for good Mexican food.
Finally found the Chillito Pikin, perfect Service and very tasty food.
You also have to try the tasty corn and wheat tortillas

  • *****

This is quality food and so filling for such a good price. The service is so great and such a positive atmosphere. I highly recommend trying this place. My friends and I really enjoyed it!

  • *****

Thank you Yelp for recommending this incredible restaurant. My wife wanted fish tacos, I wanted shrimp tacos. This place was rated #1 for both. So delicious as are their charo beans, and homemade chips and warm salsa. And the nicest servers anywhere. Enjoy!

  • *****

Friendly little family run restaurant! Food is delicious and freshly made I recommend the Joshua Tacos! (They are basically carne asada tacos) The salsa was fresh and the chips were fresh. If you are in SPI looking for some quick authentic Mexican this is your spot! I recommend eating in rather getting your food to go because they will charge you for chips and salsa on a to go order.

  • *****

This place is great, Not touristy at all, a little gem on the island. The food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable considering the portions are big enough to feed a horse. We came twice and had the chicken chipotle Torta, the fish plate, fajita flameado , the flautas, fajita quesadilla, and the Mexican plate. All very good. It's a must stop highly recommend.

  • *****

They were the friendliest, most accomadating for vegetarians that. We have been. The veggie tacos were amazing and the guacamole and chips were outstanding! The entire staff were so genuinely kind and helpful!! Love this place- what a jewel!

  • *****

Had tacos all pastor, de barbacoa, Josh tacos and gorditas and they were amazing. Agua de Jamaica was good also. Make sure you ask for the habanero sauce..spicy but flavorful

  • *****

This was one of the best Mexican meals I've had. Not only was the food fantastic but the service was too. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. The chef even came out after our meal to ask how everything was. My Enchiladas Mexicans was great, 4 chicken enchiladas with a boneless pork chop! Unless you're a big water stick with the mediums. My nieces got a medium torta and taco and each was a foot long and overstuffed! My wife and mother in law had the bean and cheese nachos and I probably polished off a quarter of them. Not because I was still hungry but because they were so good. We're here for another two full days and may just go again.

  • *****

Food was great as was service. Great value for the money. Had the tacos al pastor and was delicious. The charro beans were really good as well.

  • *****

Hello, my name is Raza Ali I came to SPI for my wifes Birthday weekend. Very special weekend for us. She was craving Spanish food so we googled out this spot. Its not a very big fancy resturant but the food was delicious. We ordered a decent amount of food for the 4 of us & it was delicious.

The server Erica was real great & awesome & hands down the the Chef the main person in house . Quantity of the food is good very large portions.

My wife & other 2 friends loved the food.

  • *****

Best Mexican food on south padre island and that's coming from a really island native no just a local

  • *****

Awesome food. Huge portions. Reasonable price. Good service.

  • *****

Everything was excellent. Portions are huge. We will be back.

  • *****

I love food made by people who love to cook. The most amazing dinner made with love. The staff knew what ingredients were in everything because it is homemade. You don't want to miss this place.

  • *****

Amazing food (so much of it too) and great prices.

  • *****

A little hole in the wall restaurant serving good Mexican food. Service was great and the all u can eat enchiladas were worth the 8.00. served with a good amount of rice, beans n salad..Will return...

  • *****

Delicious food grate customer service! Definitely coming back tomorrow

  • *****

Two words...muy bueno. Portions are large, flavor is outstanding. Salsa is perfection.

  • *****

WOW!!!! Authentic, wonderful ,friendly , and family owned. .. Dont miss it if you love real mexican food. Awesomeness.. Tons of delicious food for the money.

  • *****

Good food at a reasonable price. I don't live in SPI. I live in San Antonio, and didnt expect much since i came in the off season, but found this food to be worth visiting a second time. Its not upscale, fancy etc. But if your looking for something tasty and inexpensive then this just may be worth trying.

  • *****

Cozy, inexpensive, friendly and fast. Best of all, the food was delicious and fresh. The serving size was very generous and the hot sauces were spicy yet tasty. Will definitely go there again.

  • *****

We had the shrimp tacos and they were really good. The shrimp were a little bit small and they had a lot of purple cabbage, bit still really good.

  • *****

This is a "hole in the wall" kinda restaurant. It's homey though and the service was good as well as the food. If you're expecting China dishes then this isn't the place for you. But if you want a lot of food and to be in a food coma later...come here. I had a chicken quesadilla and a lemonade and the BF had the Philly cheese steak taco (medium size) and a horchata. Both of us took home leftovers it was so much food!!

  • *****

    Stoppedin last
    Minute and we were
Greatly impressed amazing chicken enchiladas(4) with boneless pork chop rice and beans. Regularly $9.99. But Special
    Was $6.99!! Fast
And very friendly service. Plan in going back!!

  • *****

Great food, had the shrimp tacos and shrimp ranchero were very good, service was fast and kid friendly staff. Would come back.

  • *****

Food was so good. And everything looked good too. It's a little hole in the wall, and could easily be missed. The cook and waitress always checked on us to make sure see had everything we needed and that wet were satisfied with our food

  • *****

    Excellent service and food!

  • *****

If you are traveling to South Padre island and you are looking for a Tex mex restaurant this is the place to go. Thier food is delicious one of the best I've tasted in a while. Pro good service, inexpensive, and huge portion food Con small place but it's worth to eat at

  • *****

Excellent Josh tacos and rice! We call them street tacos in Oklahoma. I visited tonight and the server was nice, had patience and was friendly. She also answered all my questions. I also ordered the chips and salsa, different type of salsa, but it was really good. Excellent flavor on everything. Some of the local firemen/emt stopped by to eat. I would eat here again. Thank you for the great food!

  • *****

What a great little place! It is a hole in the wall place that won't catch your eye from the road but man is it good! Inexpensive, super friendly staff and the Aqua Fresca's are to die for! The tortas and tacos are massive and great to feed groups. This is a new favorite of ours!

  • *****

Amazing food and wonderful wait staff. A little know gem on the island. Do yourself a favor and try it. You won't be sorry.

  • *****

Awesome food and great service. Seriously eat here! Fish tacos were amazing!

  • *****

Amazing Mexican food and wonderful service. The blackened fish tacos are some of the best I've ever had. The salsa is to die for. It's not only the best Mexican food on the island it's the best period.

  • *****

Like the daughter of the owners I would like to say thank you to all the people who come to the restaurant and support are business, my parents and I try are best to make you feel as if you where at your own home, we love to get to know one and each of you that come in. Are goal is always to see you guys leave haply and satisfied, I know that sometimes are food takes some time but that's because we make it as fresh as we can for you. Once again thank you for your support and we can't wait to see you here!!!!!!!!

  • *****

This was a great place. As other reviewers have said, it is definitely a hole in the wall, and it is worth a visit. Service was good. I often have a hard time with hole in the wall restaurants because they tend to be dirty. This is not the case here. Authentic Mexican food that reminded me of my grandmother. Wonderful!

  • *****

The food was really good. However they closed at 8 on the Thursday night that we ate there. (Party of 9) We arrived about 7:45 because we saw online that they closed at 9. Long story short the service wasn't that great. Ordered fajitas and had to wait almost 10 mins for the 1 GIANT flour tortilla I had to share with my girlfriend, because we ordered fajitas for 2. You'd think you'd get more than 1 tortilla. Also we were disappointed they didn't have enough Dr. Pepper for our group. They had 2 cans I believe. With that said, we do assume responsibility in the fact that we arrived 15 mins before they closed, rendering them unprepared for a large group. (4 adults, 5 children)

  • *****

pretty decent prices. We paid $58 (including tip) for 5 of us--3 kids. Service was good as well as the food. Did not get to try the tortas everyone is raving about. I'd come back.

  • *****

This place was so good! The employees are super welcoming and family run.. the salsas were all really good and spicy watch out for the Habanero one so good but so hot. My husband ordered the nachos that were huge and I ordered the special Chicken enchiladas with the house salsa and everything was delicious. So glad we found this little spot here we will definitely be back. If I could give more stars I would.

  • *****

Awesome find! A little hole in the wall restaurant, but boy I tell you the food was great. Our table had the beef fajitas plate, the text Mexican plate and the chicken ranchero Torrance the size of Texas and that was the medium-sized Torta. So much food on one plate you need a doggy bag for sure. We will be back!

  • *****

I have to start by saying that this was, hands down, the absolute best sandwich I've ever had.

I got the chicken chipotle torta. Be warned: the medium is more than a foot long! But you won't regret it. Between the grilled bread, perfectly blackened thin slices of chicken, the avocado and the sauce, this sandwich was seriously next-level.
It comes with some delicious fries, that I didn't eat many of so I could stuff more sandwich in my face.

Husband got the large taco. Large is a misnomer. Serving tray size is more accurate. He loved it, especially when accented by their house jalapeo or habanero salsa.

We also had the queso, which was okay, but the chips were extremely tasty and fresh.

    We both took home leftovers.

  • *****

Food was awesome. Husband ordered Bass and it was delicious. The cheese enchiladas were tasty and not so spicy. My daughter and I had Joshua's tacos and Torreados tacos. The plates are big for a great price. The restaurant is really small but they gave great service. I'd recommend to everyone who comes to SP.

  • *****

The ultimate mom and pop secret. If you blink, you will miss it driving down Main. Awesome food. Signature dish is the Torta Mediana. HUGE sandwich!!! Enough for two. Mexican enchiladas were great, too. Also got a taste of the shrimp tacos and they were the best I've ever had!

  • *****

Great place ,great food, need to try there Monster torta

  • *****

Always wonder about a new "hole in the wall" place to eat...this is real Tex-Mex at it's greatest.Got there at 6:30,party of 11,couple of minutes later and we would have stood in line! They have a constant turn over of pleased and stuffed guest.Between all of us we tried most of the menu , including the special.Everthing was great,no really...never been in a island restraunt this small and family run,or a big corp for that matter ,that served anything this nice , portions were large,ok huge, server was great, always a smile and checking on us.less than 100 for 11 of us,only problem is no booze lic yet...there is a store across the street with cold beer and they let you bring it in.We are headed back to South Padre in the fall...this will be our first night supper..see u there!

  • *****

Awesome! If you're looking for great Mexican food this is the place to come! Fajitas (shrimp and beef) were both very good. Large plates with tasty beans and rice! Highly recommend!

  • *****

This place is such a hidden gem. It's not fancy and you would likely pass this by without giving a second thought to stopping in for a meal. However, don't be fooled, the food here is EXCELLENT! My favorite thing here is the enchiladas. They are awesome! The salsa is great also. The only reason I knocked it down a star is they don't really give you much for chips/salsa which is a shame because the salsa really is excellent.

  • *****

What a fantastic little find on the island! We decided to eat here based on the reviews that we read on Yelp. The location and the building itself is very interesting. It is a small, hole-in-the-wall building that has obviously seen better days. Years of the harsh sun and tropical winds have done a number on the outside. As far as getting to it, it is easy to pass up as it is set back a little from the Main Street. Parking is not very plentiful, so this may be an issue depending on what time you go there.

The interior is very simple. It is a rather small space with about 8 or so tables. Simple, yet colorful, decorations adorn the small building. The peel are very friendly to greet y at the counter and show you to a place to sit.

As for the menu, it appears rather large. There is the usual spread of tacos, burritos, enchilada plates, etc. I decided to try. The Chicken Chipotle Torta and my friend had the Barbacoa Tacos. To drink, I had a coke and he had a Horchata. The Horchata tasted like a premixed drink packet. Nothing special there. We asked for some chips and salsa. We like spicy salsa, so we asked for the hottest stuff they had, which was a chipotle salsa. She brought the hot basket of homemade chips which were very nice. We tried all of the salsas that they had. They all had a decent flavor, but none of them were even close to spicy. Somewhat of a disappointment, but oh well.

The food came out in a timely fashion. The Barbacoa tacos did have a decent amount of meat on them and otherwise looked appropriate. The meat however was rather flavorless and somewhat greasy. They were the most disappointing part of the experience. The Torta on the other hand was a fantastic creation! I got the medium Torta which was roughly 2 feet long. The bread was slices as it had been basted in butter and the toasted on the grill. This sandwich must have had about two and a half pounds of deliciously seasoned chicken breasts on it. It was also loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado slices, and a wonderful chipotle sauce. It was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eat eat a restaurant.

Overall, our experience at this little restaurant was a good one. The people were very friendly and the food was very good. We would definitely come back if we were in the area again.

  • *****

This hole in the wall Mexican spot was outstanding! Some of the best tacos I've ever had!! Definite must try while in South Padre.

  • *****

Such great food if you find yourself wanting some authentic Mexican food while on the island! Had fish tacos and they were delicious!

  • *****

Fresh, tasty and huge portions. The fish tacos and Mexican plate were great. The medium taco is enough for two people. Excellent service as well!

  • *****

Ceviche was really good and fresh tasting, shrimp tacos were really good but the shrimps were very small.

  • *****

As Texans, we pride ourselves in being connoisseurs of Mexican food, so it's no small thing when I say that this place is FANTASTIC. Everyone at our table had a different dish--Josh's fajita beef fajita tacos, cheese enchiladas, chicken fajitas, medium fajita & cheese taco (HUGE!), enchiladas Mexicanos (4 enchiladas with thin-sliced pork chops on top), and a Mexican platter--and we savored every bite of each! We may head back for a second visit on our week's vacation...and we never eat at the same place twice! Note: the restaurant is very small and closes early, so you might want to come early to get a spot!

  • *****

I have been coming to SPI for 35 years. Finally a mexican food restaurant on the island that is worth your time going to. No flashy signs or a big place but it's whats inside that counts. The food was authentic, tasted mmmmmm, big portions & friendly staff. Definitely will tell my friends and family about this diamond.....

  • *****

Great food, great price, great staff. The outside might not look all that but the inside is nice and clean.

  • *****

This place is very good. Very pleasantly surprised. I've been to the island hundreds of times in my life and never heard of this place. I found it on Yelp. We ate so well. Walked out stuffed. Plate of 5 tacos, Mexican plate, enchilada plate, and appetizer of chicken flautas for 35 bucks. Try it out.

  • *****

The best food on the island. Period.
You have to try it. Especially if you are European. Thank me later.
I'm usually suspicious to highly rated low-cost restaurants, because everything has its price, right? Don't make my mistake. For 10 days on SPI I've found three places with decent food (Hilton, this one, and I forgot the name of the third restaurant). Chillito is best.
Personnel was extremely friendly and helpful. Customized both dishes for us (my girl is allergic to garlic&onion. In a Mexican restaurant ;) and both the waitress and the cook came and talked to us several times until we choose a dish)
The servings were huge (we took the medium size)
The food was the best we had on the island.
Looking forward to going hungry again.

  • *****

Hard to find, even harder to forget. Greattt food and they're not skimpy on the portions. Nachos are the best I've ever had and the chipotle chicken sandwich is great. And soo big! I highly recommend this place, its a must.

  • *****

Shrimp tacos were great, portion sizes were generous for the price, and the staff was very friendly. This place is easy to miss, but if you are on South Padre I'd recommend looking for it.

  • *****

awesome place ........... I Dare you to eat the little Pepper. Dare you

  • *****

Came at a slow time and was greeted by the waitress right away. She told us the most popular items on the menu & what she liked most. We ordered the Mexican plate & the medium Chipotle torta. All the foos was exactly how i love mexican food--authentic! We had the shrimp ceviche (delicious) that comes in a fishbowl for an appetizer. I highly suggest the Jamaica drink to cool you off in this heat! So yummy & fresh! I'll be craving this food until next time.

  • *****

Good flavor, large portions, good use of money. Don't order too much, portions are extremely large. Very good. Excellent!

  • *****

Best Mexican food ever! Ceviche was excellent and portions are super large! Consider sharing! No alcohol, but it's delish!!

  • *****

Honestly, the only thing that needs to be said about this place is that you'll never want to eat Mexican food anywhere else ever again.
The saddest thing about leaving SPI was that I won't be able to eat here again for a very long time.

I would drive the 16 hours from Kansas City to SPI JUST for this food.

    Eat there. I'm serious.

  • *****

I went to try this place based on yelp review !! It was really good food and excellent service!!! Will def go back

  • *****

I absolutely love tex-mex food! This place has some of the best I've ever had. I've been coming to the island for vacation every year since 2010. I finally tried this place and am so glad that I did. Its by no means low calorie/low fat, but if you want to indulge in a mouth watering, tasty tex/mex meal, this is the place to go. I will be back!

  • *****

If u haven't tried this place don't let the small, hard to find, hole in d wall, mom n pop, home cooked meal of an amazing food pass u by.

  • *****

Great authentic place to eat. Family run and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

  • *****

Authentic Mexican food ! Amazing flavors ! Are u on vacation? SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES! Don't make more rich the rich companies...

  • *****

Their seafood tacos were among the best I've ever had!

  • *****

We loved this place! I had the blackened fish tacos and the person I was with had the blackened shrimp tacos. Both were terrific. We had the beans and rice with the meals and they were delicious. This is a relatively small place that obviously caters to locals but all the more for it!
The parking lot is small so be careful when you try to get out.
A wonderful, authentic, place and the staff is friendly and helpful!

  • *****

Food was very good. There is no free chips and salsa and they were out of queso when we went but the food portions are outrageous!! Also I would not recommend for a large number of people because the restaurant is pretty small.

  • *****

A perfect break from the usual tourist fare in South Padre Island. We got a taco salad that was big enough for three people. The tortilla bowl was freshly fried and had plenty of meat. We also ordered a combination plate. Very good, huge portions, and most combos are under $10. Would visit here any time we came back to SPI. Love the family-run environment and had great service.

  • *****

First time, what a treat! Will come back and so should others. Puts Donkey to shame.

  • *****

Awesome Mexican food! I am from San Antonio and eat Texmex all the time and this place was great. Went on a Friday during lent so fish on special - I had the shrimp ranchera and the wife had the blackened fish tacos. Mine was fantastic and I think the sauce was homemade which is rare for a ranchera sauce I find. My wife's tacos were even better than mine. Everything was very fresh tasting especially the corn tortillas. My daughter had the nachos which were piled very high. Great food great value.

  • *****

I have been here 2 weeks and have eaten here 3 times si you know it has to be good. Specials ever day for about $7, one of my favorite meals are the chicken breasts tostadas, you get 4 on a order with Rancho beans that are homemade and delicious. Plates are always more than you can. Small family place but try well worth.

  • *****

An absolute gem. Do not let the unassuming exterior, and simple interior decor deter you from stopping and enjoying a delicious, authentic, unforgettable Mexican meal.

My girlfriend and I ate here one evening. We walked in 15 minutes prior to close (we didn't know until after we ordered). Once we found out I asked the owner's daughter (our waitress) if she would like us to take it to go. She laughed and insisted we stay. The food was brought out only a few short minutes later. How tasty!! I got the Mexican plate, my girlfriend got the Chicken Enchiladas, both were phenomenal. After paying for the meal we were told we should stop back in tomorrow, so we did! The next day we got the Pikin Special (an assortment of delectable items). Glad we ate there twice. Both trips were a fantastic experience.

Overall, this was the best Mexican food I have ever eaten in my life. The family is from the Vera Cruz region of Mexico - not sure if this had something to do with it.

I would recommend this establishment to anyone.

  • *****

I went here with my family for lunch and it was absolutely amazing. We had blackened chicken tacos, blackened shrimp tacos, and chicken empanadas. Each dish was cooked to perfection and the portions were pretty generous as well. We love Mexican food and this is some of the best we've ever had. The service was fantastic as well. The lady that served us was so kind and courteous.

  • *****

Great little family run fresh Mexican restaurant. Had the spicy ranchero style jumbo shrimp as the Friday special for $6.99 / and that's not a typo.

Fresh, flavorful and one of the best seafood values I have run into in many years.

    We will return.

    Highly recommended!

I ended up stopping here on a quick trip to the Island. The food was tasty and the prices were decent.

The best tacos ever!! We saw all the positive reviews and decided to try it and are so glad we did. I had the pork bistek, others had beef fajita tacos, charro beans and cheese enchiladas all excellent. The salsas were all delicious with some of the best chips anywhere. Great location and friendly efficient service. Highly recommend this place.

Fresh, homemade Mexican food. Homemade tortillas no preservatives. Best Mexican food I have had in quite a while. We will be back for sure.

  • *****

SO GOOD! We came at noon for lunch and although it was a bit busy the service was perfect. The food was amazing, even my picky 11 year old said it was "the best cheese quesadilla" he's ever had. We haven't been impressed with many of the restaurants on SPI, but don't miss this one and don't judge a book by its cover! Stop here for sure!

  • *****

Nice find. The chips and salsa are very good. Everything is fresh and made on the spot. Very nice employees and the chef came out to check on everyone. Great prices.

  • *****

Good family owned restaurant. Home cooked flavors. Salsas have different flavors, but good variety. Really crispy chips.

Yes, you will like this place. The staff is exceptionally nice, customers seem genuinely happy to be dining there, and the food is magnificent. My wife and I were desperate for good Mexican food and chose Chillito Pikin from Yelp reviews after failing to locate a place that was still open at 7pm.

We ordered beef enchiladas and a Mexican plate special with a pork chop. I doubted a pork chop special could be anything special, but my friend, this was the best damn pork chop I've ever tasted. Seriously, a park chop on top of enchiladas blew my mind. Beans and rice prepared just right, and a sweet herbal tea drink they prepared in house.

You know the food is good when four local cops show up for a break at 7pm, and joined minutes later by three more officers, all who seemed familiar with the restaurant and its friendly staff.

Enjoy, friends, it doesn't get more authentic than this.

I'm not a Mexican food fan at all but the blackened shrimp tacos were amazing! I truly hate cilantro and they were covered in it so I was worried. Combined with the sauce, shrimp and purple cabbage, however and the tacos were heavenly.

Yup this is a hole in the wall but the food was sensational.

  • *****

Awesome...food coma now...must sleep...do yourself a favor and stop by a place thats doing it right. No health food here, just plain goodness.

  • *****

Real authentic Mexican food.... Don't expect ambience but food is great

  • *****

This place has amazing Mexican Food. The tortas are huge and sit on a mound of fries. The fries are crispy and could not get enough of them. The cheese enchiladas were amazing. They even accommodated and made sure the cheese enchiladas were vegetarian.

They have weird hours, so call ahead before heading down. The service felt like we at home with family. Love the whole experience and we will be back.

  • *****

amazing! amazing! food! go there. get everything.

  • *****

Yes everything was handmade fresh by the owner and his wife, you don't see that much anymore this day and age. I was in Mexico this spring and the food wasn't this good. You almost feel as if you have stepped into the families home and into their kitchen in this little hole in the wall in a two business strip mall. One other note from someone that has been at most of the eating establishments on SPI, they have GREAT WATER! Not that skanky stuff most of the restaurants serve here on the island, even without lemon its good.
I thank you for sharing you food and passion for good food with us.

  • *****

Food was great. Everyone liked what they ordered and had enough for leftovers. Very authentic flavor. Dad was the chef - really friendly good people. Will definitely go back again.

  • *****

Fresh. Yummy. Friendly. A perfect spot to get away among this tourist area.

  • *****

Excellent food. Excellent service. Will definitely be back.

  • *****

Absolutely delicious food, big plates, good price. Do not over look this place, its small in size but big on good eats

  • *****

The food is fresh and delicious. The people who work there are friendly and the service is great. What a great find. The guacamole was the best.

  • *****

As others reviewers have written, it is a hole in the wall but don't let that stop you.

The chips are homemade and the salsa has a unique but very tasty flavor.

I had the blackened shrimp tacos which have lots of shredded purple cabbage, cilantro, shrimp and a sauce. When I tasted the sauce alone I was concerned I had ordered something I didn't like. When mixed with the cilantro, the flavor of the sauce was wonderful. The charro beans were flavorful and the refried beans were definitely homemade and very good.

My wife had the enchiladas verdes and said they were great. The corn tortillas were made with white corn and very soft and the chicken was quite tasty.

Their potions are very generous and the prices are very reasonable. If you are looking for Mexican food as opposed to Tex Mex that we have in San Antonio, this is the place!

The staff was also very friendly!

  • *****

    good fish tacos!

  • *****

Ceviche was awesome. Fried shrimp were amazing. Definitely recommend this place. Don't let the humble appearance fool you, this place is great.

  • *****

This is that hole in the wall Mexican food restaurant that you're always searching for in San Antonio but it turns out that it's in South Padre Island.

The cheese enchiladas taste like Joe T. Garcia's up in Fort Worth - in other words, only two places in Texas have them this good.

Everything else that we tried on the menu, which was just about everything, was great.

It's hard to find really unique Mexican food. El Chile and El Chilito in Austin have really unique and incredible flavors. And Joe T. Garcia's up in Fort Worth. And then this place in South Padre - Chillito Pikin. Great place.

  • *****

The food is great and the portions are huge.

  • *****

Best cheese enchiladas ever. Awesome guacamole. Little hole in wall and hard to find. Yummy!

  • *****

What a great surprise! Huge portions, BYOB, great tacos!! This place is awesome. The street tacos are fantastic and the burgers are HUGE!!! The kids love the queso and chips. I will be back next year. We called ahead and they had a table for 10 ready for us when we arrived.

  • *****

Loved this hole in the wall! I got delicious fish tacos which were bigger than I expected! I LOVE their salsa, it was kind of unusual-- creamy and orange but spicy. Delicious! The other people in my party got the chicken enchiladas and beef enchiladas which they said were the best they had in a while. If you're here on vacation this is THE Mexican restaurant that is cheap, yummy, and quick!

  • *****

We went here on a whim based on yelp reviews and it lived up to the hype. Awesome servers, excellent food. We recommend either the blackened shrimp tacos or the chicken enchiladas verdes. The handmade guacamole was wonderful as well. The price is right too!

  • *****

Good food at a good price.  They made an order for me that wasn't on the menu.

Had 12 people to feed and they made something up for me.

  • *****

Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place - but super yummy food! The service was amazing. They were very good about accommodating vegetarian diets too.  Prices were very decent as well. Food came out fast as well, but we also had lunch at 3pm..

  • *****

This is probably the best value on the island. Outside of the generous portions and lack of waiting time, the food tasted great, even for picky eaters in my group! We will surely come back again.

  • *****

Damn this place was good! We chose this as our first restaurant to eat in on SPI and really wanted to eat every other meal here. If only they had been open Sunday night! I had fish tacos and the old man had beef fajitas. The fish was cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. Chips were fresh and salsa was good. Beans were delicious, and fiance raved about the fajitas. I have zero complaints. We visited the very next day and both ended up ordering the same thing although many other items on the menu looked appetizing. It is that good. You must eat here while in SPI. Did I mention portions are generous and the price is right? Best food we ate on our trip by far.

  • *****

Great food and reasonable prices! Staff was courteous and efficient. Everyone in our party (9 people) enjoyed their meals. Highly recommend!

  • *****

I woukd go 4.5. The portions here are ridiculously large. The medium torta could feed four! Very friendly folks.... great menu. Really food here on the island is definitely mediocre at best. This place is GREAT!!!!

  • *****

Had dinner here tonight with the family. Like others have said, it is a hole in the wall. Started with the guacamole and chips. It was the best guacamole I have had in a long time and made to order as well. Wife had the shrimp ceviche and it was excellent too. Fish tacos were very fresh and tortillas were homemade. Steak torta was huge and delicious, more than I could eat. I have enough left over for another meal. Only downside was the barbacoa tacos. While they were properly prepared with beef cheek meat, the meat was too greasy and because of this I can not recommend the barbacoa. I would eat here again for sure. Very authentic Mexican street food.

  • *****

Initially I was hesitant to enter the restaurant because of the looks but oh boy this is the best Mexican restaurant on the island. Tasty and affordable food.

  • *****

This was a great hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant! Service is great, food is delicious, and portions are generous. Come hungry or ready to bring a to-go box.

I had the blackened fish tacos, which came with shredded purple cabbage and a spicy orange sauce. Awesome flavors all around. My brother got the beef nachos and they were amazing, too -- I was expecting ground beef, but it came with perfectly tender steak. Delicious. My mom's cheese enchiladas were just so-so, but everything else made up for them.

No beer on the menu but you can bring your own.

  • *****

This place is amazing! Great, fresh, home-made style cooking, and the best: Mexican prices!!! We ate the a couple of times, and everything we had was great! Try the ceviche, is fantastic!

  • *****

Little hole in wall but fantastic food!  Nice people with giant plates of food.  We will be back!

  • *****

Absolutely amazing. This is a hole in the wall you can miss (and dismiss) so easily as it looks so unassuming on an island where everything seems overpriced and geared toward loud touristy stuff. To make matters worse they don't serve alcohol. It also admittedly smells ...not so sure in there. But once you order chips made from scratch with the most delicious guacamole EVER your appreciation for this place improves drastically. Seriously. Those chips. That guac. I want that daily. Just when you think it couldn't get better, we got Ceviche. Again, very easily the best I ever had. Fresh, chunky and perfectly seasoned. We ate that up like nobody's bizness.
This is a Mom-and-Pop shop with an dedication to fresh and tasty food.
We also ordered fish and shrimp tacos and they were just as amazing. Beans and rice and the warm and mildly spicy salsa rounded out a perfect meal we sadly couldn't finish - it was just way too much. For under $40. That is insane.
I want them to come to Austin to open up a place here and give lessons on how to make guac and ceviche. It is that good. Thanks for the recommendation, Yelp!!

  • *****

Awesome awesome awesome. We found this place on yelp and decided to check them out. Family owned buisness with some seriously great food and reasonably priced. I recommend the fish tacos.

  • *****

I honestly have to say this was a terrific meal.  From the Coke from Mexico to the chicken nachos to the shrimp tacos, it was all amazing and for $23 - I don't know how you could beat it.  The tacos easily had a pound of chicken on them and could have been the meal.

It was prepared perfectly, service was friendly and quick and it is a great value for money in a resort town like South Padre.

DO NOT go here for the romantic dinner for two - the ambiance is more border town taco stand than chez romantic - but for a really good meal, with large portions and at a fair price - this is your place on South Padre.

The true endorsement is, the night I was there two of the towns police officers were eating there - if the local po-po don't know the good places to eat, well lock me up and throw away the key.

  • *****

Chips, salsa, and guac were all good. Enchiladas also good. Torta bigger than I would have realized. Prices reasonable

  • *****

If you like awesome food this is the place to be! When we pulled up the cops were eating there. You know they have been all around and that they know what is good. Even the lemonade is incredible! All authentic Mexican, the flavors, prices, and serving sizes can not be beat. We visited for dinner one evening and promptly returned the next day for lunch. We can't stop talking about how delicious and authentic the food is. I highly recommend the tampequeña plate. It has a taco, enchiladas and some of the best cooked beef I've ever had. The plate that comes with the pork chop is delicious as well. Give the tourist traps a break and support this locally owned family business. You will not regret it!

  • *****

Yair was amazing, great service from this FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS. The guacamole with chips and salsa was super tasty, highly recommend this place if you are visiting South Padre Island. A whole lotta food for the money, best bang for the buck by far.

I would call to see if they are really closed after 4 as the app says, it is possible they will be open.

Excellent service!  Authentic food!  It was absolutely delicious. This is a little hole in the wall place but it makes up in service and taste.

  • *****

This is a recent addition to the island.  It is very easy to pass up since it's set back off the street and in in a small little building that shares signage with a nail salon.  Inside the place is modest, with little focus on ambience.  But the menu offers a bunch of Mexican specialties with a handful of more traditional American offerings.  I ordered the fish plate (they were out of shrimp at the time).  It came with a side of steamed veggies and rice which were both a little plain.  But the fish made up for it... two large filets perfectly blackened and mouth watering... all for ~$10.

  • *****

I Love this place!   So glad when we got an authentic Mexican restaurant.   Great food, service and prices.   Don't forget to have a fried banana (plantain) to finish off your meal- so delicious.

  • *****

The food was good and the prices were fair staff was friendly kind of smelled like mildew in the place that's only thing that would take away one star for me.

  • *****

You need to eat here!  Small, mom and pop type place.  The service was awesome...so friendly and attentive, even the cooks in the kitchen were checking to make sure we liked everything.  And the food was fantastic.  Huge portions for extremely reasonable prices.  Their homemade salsa was excellent and very different flavor than I have ever had and the tortilla chips seemed like they were hand cut from actual tortillas.  We ordered the pork fajita taco and it was awesome and ungodly large.  The sampler platter we got wad the special of the day...enough to fill us both up and it was only $6.99.  We would eat here all the time if we lived here!

  • *****

Really good food. Real Mexican and their prices are not bad. I loved everything about them. The building looks kinda sketchy but don't let that be a problem!

  • *****

Authentic Mexican food. Good and spicy.  If you like mexican food that is authentic and spicy this is it. Just a hole in the wall place. Great food, great street tacos, all the dishes we had were superb plus if you like a bit of spice like I do they can light it up.

Prices were crazy cheap for the amount of food. I can't say enough good about this place haven't tried breakfast but will.
